Just under 30 miles northwest of Gainesville is Poe Springs, a naturally formed, freshwater basin. Poe Springs County Park is located near the quaint town of High Springs. Its shallow waters make Poe Springs a great choice for families with small children (sorry scuba divers). Visitors enjoy some of the clearest spring water in North Florida, and with a constant temperature of around 72 degrees, it's always a refreshing getaway on a hot summer day. Poe Springs offers an assortment of activities, including swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking. Visitors are encouraged to walk along the spring's shoreline or hike through the area's lush forests. It also maintains a well-kept park and is equipped with covered picnic pavilions, a playground, public bathhouses, canoe and kayak rentals, recreational volleyball courts, as well as soccer and softball fields. Swim attire is the best way to enjoy a day of fun in the sun at Poe Springs! Entry is free of charge, as is the use of the volleyball, tetherball, baseball and softball fields.
