“It’s All About Da Crab” at the 11th Annual Steinhatchee Fiddler Crab Festival, February 15-17, 2019

I remember the very first Steinhatchee Fiddler Crab Festival.  The community stuck it’s neck out, en masse, with a fishing tournament, a few food trucks, a chili cook-off, music and of course, fiddler crab races.  And it poured rain!  But in spite of the bad weather, the crowds magically appeared.  I even won the fishing tournament, by default (one fish entered =one prize!)

This year, at the 11th Annual Festival, sponsored by the Steinhatchee River Chamber of Commerce and Taylor County, your $5 admission fee (cash only!) will give you all-access to events for the three-day festival.  Expect great music, including auditions for the Suwannee River Jam, and a car show.  The fun begins on Friday, the 15th with entertainment on the River Haven stage.  Music will last well into the evening, so bring comfortable lawn chairs.  No coolers are allowed,.   A parade, starting at 10:30 AM on Saturday, will mark the beginning of the “big day” at this year’s event, which includes the “Swampwater Cook-Off”, the fiddler crab races, arts and craft sales, and the Suwannee River Jam auditions.  The weigh-in for Saturday’s fishing tournament will be from 2 to 3PM (Be sure to attend the MANDATORY CAPTAIN’S MEETING, 5:30PM at the Sea Hag Marina.)

Steinhatchee is just a short drive from Gainesville or Tallahassee.  Located in southern Taylor County, along the banks of the Steinhatchee River, it’s a fun place to visit year-round.
