Get Hooked at Gulf Coast Fishing Tournament, October 12, 2019

If you’re a saltwater angler and paddler, avid or otherwise, you don’t want to miss the upcoming “Get Hooked…In Taylor County” catch, photo, release kayak fishing tournament. Sponsored by and hosted by the Gulf Coast Kayaking Club, Walter B’s store, Taylor County TDC and the Taylor County Chamber of Commerce this event will be held on October 12th at Keaton Beach, north of Steinhatchee.

The $55 entry fee, payable at the October 11th Captains’ Meeting at Walter B’s Store on Highway 361, covers a nice fishing shirt, as well as a captain’s bag and a “mystery fish” token. Also available, at the meeting, at extra cost is a fine shrimp dinner. You may register online at taylorflorida.com, or in person at Big Bend Outfitters, Walter B’s, or the Chamber office. Or call (850) 584-5366.

There’s no doubt that Taylor County, which stretches from the Steinhatchee River to the Fenholloway River, has some of Florida’s best fishing, for redfish and big spotted seatrout. Both species are included in the guaranteed tournament payout of $2500. There are also prizes for the redfish with the most spots and for the largest “mystery fish”.
