Levy County Florida’s State Parks Springs Are Worth A Wintertime Visit

Florida’s Levy County is mostly rural and is bounded by the Gulf of Mexico (on the west), the Suwannee River (on the north) and the Withlacoochee River (on the south).  There are 4 major Florida State Parks in the county–Manatee Springs, Fanning Springs, Waccasassa Bay Preserve and Cedar Key Museum.

All are worth a day trip, but if you’re in the northern end of the county and it’s cool outside, both Fanning Springs and Manatee Springs State Parks are worth a visit.

Manatee Springs is not very crowded during cooler months, but the water’s always a comfortable 72-degrees F

The “pool” at Fanning Springs can be almost deserted during winter months.  Fanning Springs State Park is conveniently located near the intersection of US19/98 and SR26 in northern Levy County.

If you’re not a fan of swimming, paddling at either park is an option.  Both offer easy access to the main Suwannee River for canoeists or kayakers.
