Getting Here

Wind your way through 7,000 square miles of farms and forests, rivers and springs, and rural country backroads. The region extends east and west along the I-75 corridor, from the Florida-Georgia state line south to Micanopy. A well-developed network of state and local roads connects travelers to destinations throughout the region. Oyster reefs, salt marshes, and underwater meadows stretch for 80 miles along the Gulf of Mexico. The towns of Starke, Hawthorne and Cross Creek form the eastern boundaries. Bus
Greyhound bus stations are located in Alachua; Cross City; Fanning Springs; Gainesville; Lake City; Live Oak; Madison; Perry; Starke; Tallahassee and Waldo. Contact Greyhound.

Car Rentals
Rental car agencies and other passenger transportation services can be found in Gainesville, Lake City, Live Oak, Perry and Tallahassee. Be sure to check the Yellow Pages for complete information.

Rail
Connecting Tallahassee with east-west service aboard the transcontinental Sunset with limited stops in LA, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami. Downtown, Railroad Ave. 850-224-2779 or 800-872-7245. Amtrak's Sunset Ltd. (Los Angeles to Jacksonville) route also stops in Madison and Lake City. The stations are not staffed, and travelers must purchase tickets prior to boarding the train at these locations. At this time, Amtrak reservations and ticket sales are offered only in downtown Tallahassee and Gainesville. By using Amtrak's twice-daily motorcoach service to Palatka, travelers can connect to the Sunset Ltd., as well as to the Silver Star and destinations north/south of The Original Florida. Navigable Waters
Marinas with boat dockage and associated services are located in the towns of Steinhatchee and Suwannee (at the mouths of rivers), Keaton Beach, as well as Cedar Key (Gulf of Mexico). With a deep, well-marked channel, Steinhatchee is accessible to a large variety of vessels. There are three marinas in Suwannee.
