A Few Changes at Florida’s Ichetucknee State Park in Columbia County

Florida’s Ichetucknee State Park is a favorite of locals, as well as visitors to the State.  The head spring feeds the river with clean, clear water and pushes rafters, tubers and paddlers downstream for an unequaled view of one of Florida’s most pristine natural areas.

For the 2016 “season”, beginning in late May, there have been a few changes made by the Florida State Parks system.  They are:

  • The shuttle trams that take tubers back and forth from the north and south entrances have been upgraded.  They are larger and are now operated by the concessionaire, Paddling Adventures
  • There is now a charge to use the trams.  There are kiosks at the north entrance where you can purchase tickets/wristbands for use of the tram.  The cost is $5 per person, plus tax.  Personal paddle craft transport is also available for $7, plus tax.
  • Paddling Adventures will also offer kayak and paddleboard rentals.

  • Single Kayak……………………….$20.00
  • Tandem Kayak…………………….$35.00
  • Single Canoe………………………$35.00
  • Stand Up Paddle Boards………$30.00

*Rentals include shuttle transportation

Here’s some current information from the Park Manager:

“Starting April 9, 2016, the South Take-Out entrance and exit point for the park and river will be re-opened after an exciting renovation/restoration project! Also, we are very excited to announce that the concession Paddling Adventures will be renting canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboards from the North Concession building (located at the north end by the canoe launch.) Check them out at the “Things To Do” section of the website.*****

Spring is here! However, the days are still warm making it a perfect time for swimming in the head spring’s beautiful 72 degree water. The approximate 1 1/2 hour tubing adventure is available year round from the Midpoint Launch until 4:00 p.m daily. Dampier’s Landing is an approximate 30-45 minute float and is available until 4:00 p.m. daily. Both launches are accessed by a 15-20 minute walk to Midpoint or an approximate 5 minute walk to Dampier’s Launch. There is a return walk of approximately 15-20 minutes, from the Last Take-out to the south parking lot. Canoeing/kayaking/stand up paddle boarding is still available from the North Launch to the Last Take-out with your own transportation.

Birding is excellent in and around the spring run. Bring your binoculars and bird book. The park is a Great Florida Birding Trail site.”

The crystal clear Headspring located at the North Entrance is a perfect place to bring the family for a hike on the two nature trails and enjoy a picnic overlooking the Headspring.”
